“Historic Zinfandel Vineyards” celebrates the first and only time two iconic Ridge vineyards - Lytton Springs and Geyserville - have been assembled. Both are historical vineyards sites, with some blocks dating back to the 19th century. The winery’s first Geyserville wine was made in 1966 and the first Lytton Springs came next in 1972. Throughout Ridge history, these two wines have held their own space. Never before, and never again, shall this combination be available to the public. When these two vineyards are blended, it creates a wine with tremendous depth and layers of flavor, showcasing the unique attributes of both historic sites. Lytton Springs is home to 100-plus-year-old Zinfandel vines and a prime example of Ridge’s commitment to championing heritage varietals, meaning grape varieties planted more than a century ago and surviving in numerous locations. Geyserville vineyard is home to the Old Patch, a section of the vineyard contains vines that are more than 130 years of age. Old vines contribute an intensity and complexity of flavor to the wine that cannot be replicated by any other method. Ridge takes a natural approach to winemaking to ensure the true expression of these extraordinary old vine characteristics. They do not use chemical treatments, membrane filtration, or sterilization, as these techniques can strip color, flavor, and texture from the wine. Rather, they adopt a non-industrial approach to winemaking, including using only natural yeast fermentation, to make certain that intensity, complexity, and character are retained.Sonoma County Barrel Auction
