We’re thrilled to have emerged from the Premiere Napa Valley Auction and the Sonoma County Barrel Auction, two of the most-anticipated and best-attended in the country, with this extraordinary haul of 11 California reds.
Each bottle is a one-off, never to be repeated, and how’s this for limited production? Each winemaker made only 5 to 20 cases of each wine.
But enough about their rarity. Let’s talk about their pedigree. Our list is a veritable roll call of California wine royalty.
Heitz Cellar has joined forces with Stony Hill and Burgess for the first time in history, creating a collaboration that honors relationships forged in the 1950s and '60s. From Darioush comes a glorious Mount Veeder estate wine, from their revered Sage Vineyard. The Diamond Mountain Six represents an unprecedented collaboration among six storied producers, who have pooled their finest fruit into a single, intensely layered Cabernet. The legendary Ridge is here, too, with a knockout Zinfandel from their historic vineyard.
What makes these wines particularly compelling, for us, are their backstories.
We have multiple expressions from Silver Oak, sourced from across their heritage sites, including fruit from Soda Canyon Ranch that has anchored their Napa Valley blend for more than two decades. Pride Mountain's 2020 Cabernet comes from grapes harvested just two days before the Glass Fire, representing the 60% of their fruit that survived one of Napa's most challenging vintages.
The estates in this collection of course speak for themselves, and clearly and authoritatively, at that, but what struck us, again and again, in our tasting was how these wines go beyond their usual excellence and somehow manage to find another level of distinction.
They will make remarkable additions to any California-focused cellar, but, truly, the chance to acquire any of these stunningly delicious bottles should have any serious collector salivating.
