Scotch collectors, lend me your ears! Since 2005, The Glenlivet has been releasing ultra-rare single cask selections but this year marks only the second release of the series within the U.S. market. Master Distiller Alan Winchester manages the evolution of The Glenlivet’s top barrels and ultimately decides which barrels house the most distinctive and extraordinary whiskies—at their peak, these singular expressions may be bottled and released as a Single Cask Edition. Always bottled at cask strength and without chill filtration, these individually numbered bottles represent the pinnacle of luxury within the Single Malt category. The Glenlivet founder George Smith once famously proclaimed, “if we can't make good whisky, then we shouldn't make any whisky.” This motivation and prowess to be the best has carried forward across the centuries, and The Glenlivet remains a worldwide benchmark for the entire Single Malt category. The Glenlivet portfolio includes a wide range of age statements and value, but the drive to be at the top of the Single Malt category is exemplified by their Single Cask Edition program. 

Our first featured Single Cask Edition comes from The Glenlivet barrel number 34306; it aged for a remarkable 16 years and eight months in first-fill American oak before reaching its peak maturation. The nose opens with a decadent combination of creamy toffee and vanilla, combined with the distinct aroma of ripe pear. The palate is delightfully smooth and soft with notes of ripe peaches in syrup, toffee, and a subtle cinnamon spiciness. 

Our second featured Single Cask Edition is from The Glenlivet barrel number 46967; it aged for 14 years and eight months in a second-fill Sherry butt. The aromas on the nose are a perfect combination of incredibly sweet and fruity apricot jam, Red Delicious apple, vanilla, and banana cream pie. The palate is engulfed by flavors of ripe banana, poached pear, warming ginger and cinnamon spice, and honey.
