The grapes are handpicked and pressed immediately. Only the best juices are retained for the Charlemagne cuvée. Fermentation, using indigenous yeasts, takes place slowly in barrels. The ageing period that follows lasts 15 months on fine lees, 60% of which is in new oak from central France’s Allier forest with the wine being stirred regularly during the first few months. Beautiful golden colour. Superbly rich nose with aromas of lemon blossom, candied pineapple and angelica, as well as hazelnut, caramel and almond. The wine boasts superb balance between freshness, acidity, richness and maturity on the palate, which is subtle and complex with notes of frangipane and kugelhopf (dried and candied fruit).Edouard Delaunay
