RARE & EXCEPTIONAL MALTS

SCOTLAND

Talisker 47 Magma headlines our latest marketplace of exceptional malts, and rightly so: it’s the newest release of the bunch, and just 622 bottles exist in the world.
Scarcity without quality, though, means nothing, and we’re here to tell you: this cask-strength single malt is as polished a release as we’ve ever come across. The age statement is impressive, of course, but for us, the even more distinguishing touch is that it was finished in an unprecedented way, in American oak casks that were toasted by the heat of volcanic rocks from the Isle of Skye itself.

In the glass, and with just the tiniest drop of water, it’s revelatory: abundant with sweet smoke, mingling brininess and spiciness, and underneath it all, that unmistakable Skye character, deepened by nearly five decades in wood.

And there’s something else here, too, that goes beyond aromatics and finishes: a kind of wild island spirit that peeks through, albeit one that is (and marvelously) slowed and seasoned by time.

As rare as this bottling is, the rest of our marketplace occupies even rarer territory.

A number of these bottles come to us from distilleries that are no longer in business: Port Ellen and Brora, for instance, both shuttered for decades. Others come from the Prima & Ultima series, which gathers singular casks from across Diageo's archive. The common denominator of all these bottles is irreplaceability: once they're gone, they’re gone for good.

Those are the broad strokes.

It’s in the smaller, finer strokes that things get really interesting …

Like, for instance, the fact that the Port Ellen 1978 Prima & Ultima Fourth Release is drawn from the last four hogsheads of that year, and tended by the very man who filled the final cask at Port Ellen in 1983.

Or the fact that the Brora 1977 Fourth Release is sourced from the last hogsheads of the last distillation in the final "Age of Peat” year.

Or the fact that The Singleton of Glen Ord 1987 Prima & Ultima Third Release is the first and only Glen Ord 1987 ever released, and comes from the last casks of that year still standing.

Or the fact that the Johnnie Walker 52-Year-Old is made up of six malts and two grains, and all drawn from the blender's two-century archive.

Collectibles don’t come more collectible than this.

We’re thrilled to have secured them, and even more thrilled to be able to bring them to you.

Just to note, folks: we'll be adding to this marketplace as time goes on. For now, these are the bottles to know … and we hope you’ll find something, maybe many somethings, that call to you.
