EXPLORING BORDEAUX: A BORDEAUX MARKETPLACE
Bordeaux, France
You might think that great Bordeaux and great value are unlikely bedfellows, but our new Value Bordeaux Marketplace is here to argue otherwise.
Say hello to the absolute best deals in all of Bordeaux … wines of aristocratic breeding but peasant prices … the kind that makes buying by the case a total no-brainer.
Eight wines survived our tasting team's thorough vetting process, and frankly, we're still pinching ourselves over what made the cut.
Most notable among them: a 99-point Pessac-Léognan from rising star Château Malartic-Lagravière $52 — and no, that’s not a typo: 99 points for $52!
In an era when a good Left Bank Cabernet routinely commands triple digits, finding this made us feel like giddy kids on Christmas morning. No doubt Jeb Dunnuck felt the same; in his 99-point love letter of a review, he declared it “awesome,” with “velvety tannins” and “a blockbuster finish” — "easily the finest I've tasted from this château.”
Then there's Château Haut-Bages-Libéral's 2022 Pauillac at $46, which Vinous, in its 97-point rave, called “huge and explosive” with “remarkable” fruit purity that stands as one of Claire Villars-Lurton's “most exuberant, ample wines.” Both Château Fleur Cardinale releases (the 2020 and 2022 St.-Emilions at $50 and $45, respectively) garnered a potential 96 points, with Dunnuck declaring the 2022 “one of the finest vintages to date for this estate” that “does everything right in the vintage.”
And the hits don’t stop there.
We’ve also got Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte's gorgeous second wine, from the potentially historic 2022 vintage; Château de Pez's stellar St.-Estèphe; and Larrivet Haut Brion's majestic Pessac expression.
