DESSERT WINE MARKETPLACE

Sure, sometimes you want nothing more than a simple scoop of ice cream and a cup of fresh-brewed coffee to close out a nice meal. But what about those more elaborate affairs with friends or family, when the bill of fare includes a rare, juicy tomahawk steak or a majestic, mustard-crusted rack of lamb, along with a bottle or two of a long-cellared Cabernet?

Those meals call for something indulgent and exquisite — a whipped cream-capped raspberry tart, a luscious crème brûlée, a perfect pavlova.

And those showstopping sweets deserve a complement: a great aged port, a gorgeously golden Sauternes, a noble Tokaji, a beautifully calibrated Riesling, a luscious Vin Santo, an elegant Muscat.

Say hello to our four-week Dessert Wine Marketplace — a curated selection of some of the best after-dinner wines you're going to find

Typically, we've brought these bottles to you one at a time, not long after we’ve secured possession of them. We're not scrapping that format, don't worry, but lately we've been thinking it might be fun for you to be able to spend some time browsing our well-stocked e-shelves and seeing what catches your eye.

There's certainly tons here to compel you, including:

  • a Château Rieussec Sauternes 1855 1er Cru 2019, which Jane Anson awarded 96 points, calling it "expertly constructed": "Sauternes doesn't always manage to deliver such a mouth-watering mix of satin texture set against pinpoint acidity, but the late harvest 2019 - botrytis arrived when the nights were cool - made for some exceptionally successful wines in the appellation, even if yields were tiny"
  • a Château Megyer Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos 2016, a sterling example of what Louis XIV coined the “wine of kings, king of wines” at the beginning of the 18th century; this bottling is an almost celestial balancing of sweetness and acidity, lushness and elegance
  • a 20-Year Tawny from the iconic Quinta das Carvalhas, flagship estate of one of Portugal's oldest and most distinguished wine companies, Real Companhia Velha, founded twenty years before the United States declared its independence from England; in a 94-point review, Wine Enthusiast hailed this bottling as a sublime example of the port-maker's craft, "smoothly textured and rich in dried fruits that are balanced by wood and spice flavors," a wine "at the perfect moment of aging"

Family occasions don’t wait, folks, so act now to secure these glorious bottles for your celebration table today.

And please note that, because these items are all currently in our possession, you can expect to have them at your door in 8-12 weeks.

Finally, keep an eye on this space, as we'll be launching more Marketplaces in the coming weeks and months, bringing you more of the best of the best ... and at the best prices.
