YELLOWSTONE LIMITED EDITION 2024

KENTUCKY STRAIGHT BOURBON WHISKEY

KENTUCKY, USA

Why Buy: Crafted by Stephen Beam, a 7th generation Master Distiller from the legendary Beam family, this dazzling, high-octane (101 proof), limited edition bourbon (their yearly release and best bottling) left us in thrall at our recent tasting, and exemplifies why Yellowstone has been such a trusted name in Kentucky since 1872. The magic lies in its unique composition: a blend of 7- and 17-year bourbons, finished in hand-selected cognac and brandy casks that honors the brand's "Mellow Mash” tradition — a designation used since Yellowstone's inception to denote only the smoothest bourbon worthy of bearing its name. And folks, we were able to secure a nice allocation of this … and hope you’ll take full advantage of our reserves.

Our Tasting Notes: The nose is bright and lively, with enticing notes of pear and ripe apple, underscored by rich panela sweetness and a hint of supple leather. The palate builds upon these initial notes, adding depth and dimension -- most notably, in the form of basswood honey and ripe stone fruits that create a rich, soft texture, with just a touch of citrus to keep the experience from becoming heavy. The honey notes persist through the finish, along with bosc pear and butterscotch, and, marvelously, a subtle leather character that adds sneaky nuance.

The Story: Yellowstone's journey began in 1872, a time when America's frontiers were still being charted and the eponymous national park had just been established. The brand was founded by J.B. Dant, son of the pioneering distiller J.W. Dant, and D.H. Taylor, at a distillery in Gethsemane, Kentucky, and quickly gained popularity, riding the wave of America's growing fascination with the West. Throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Yellowstone changed hands several times, weathering the storms of Prohibition and shifting consumer tastes. In the 1960s, the brand found a home with Glenmore Distilleries, where it continued to be a staple in Kentucky and beyond. The modern era of Yellowstone began in 2010, when Paul and Steve Beam, descendants of the famous Beam and Dant families, acquired the brand through their Limestone Branch Distillery. This marked a return to family ownership and a renewed focus on craft and quality. Today, under the stewardship of Stephen Beam, Yellowstone has made it a point of operational emphasis to look forward, even as the brand continues to build upon its storied past. The distillery has adopted sustainable practices, including using locally grown white corn and implementing water recycling programs, and Beam, ever the tinkerer, has explored the various profiles and colorations to be had from different barrel finishes and blend compositions.

ABV: 50.5% ( 101 proof).

What to Pair It With: This versatile bourbon will shine in a variety of settings. You can absolutely enjoy it neat to fully appreciate its complex flavor profile, but we think it makes a fantastic base for classic cocktails like a Manhattan or Old Fashioned or Boulevardier.

Fun Fact: Stephen Beam represents a unique convergence of two legendary bourbon families. He’s a direct descendant of Jacob Beam (of Jim Beam fame) on his father's side, and of J.W. Dant on his mother's side. This dual lineage means Stephen carries forward over 200 years of combined bourbon-making expertise.
