The world of whisky is expanding at a rapid pace with new distilleries and brands popping up each month around the globe. While traditional whisky producing nations capture a large percentage of that growth, there are dozens of other countries now producing exceptional whiskies that are certainly giving the old guard a run for their money. It's an exciting moment in the spirit world and with the ever-growing variety of choices at your fingertips, navigating through it all can be a bit tricky. If you're looking to explore the flavors of the whisky world, we've put together a selection of some top-notch producers to give you a good place to start. After tasting a multitude of whiskies from around the globe, including traditional and craft producers from burgeoning areas that remain relatively unexplored, we narrowed down three outstanding examples of both craft and traditional spirits from Oregon, Scotland and France - at price points that won't break the bank. Whether you have just started to traverse the spirit world or are a serious connoisseur, these are a few bottles worth taking a leap for:
Oregon Spirit Distillers Straight American Rye Whiskey
This is everything we love about American Whiskey. Founded in 2009, Oregon Spirit Distillers uses local and regionally sourced grain and pure Cascadian water to produce award-winning spirits that are turning heads in the craft whisky movement. Although corn is king in the States, it is their 100% Rye that took home a Double Gold Medal in 2016 at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Aged for 4 years in American white oak barrels and bottled at 90 proof, this rye packs in tons of baking spices like clove, cinnamon and nutmeg, perfectly integrated with rich flavors of honey and ginger. There is something to be said about being close to the source of your ingredients and this rye exemplifies this perfectly by offering a bolder and more classic expression that will elevate any Sazerac, Boulevardier, or Manhattan.

Glen Fohdry 21 Year Single Malt Scotch Whisky
The Glen Fohdry 21-year-old Single Malt Scotch is from the heart of Scotch production - Speyside. Home to some of Scotland's most iconic names including Macallan, Glenlivet and Balvenie, Speyside is the gold standard in the whisky world, known for their sophistication and elegance. As Scotch ages, something magical happens. The harsh spirit starts to mellow out, flavors from the barrels begin to integrate, and as evaporation occurs through the barrel, the whisky becomes complete. Master blenders taste through different barrels to create a blend that is deemed perfect. This may require barrels spanning a wide range of ages - some that are 21 years old, some that are 26 years old, etc. When bottled, law requires the minimum age to be stated on the bottle. This is exactly the case with Glen Fohdry and their 21 Year Single Malt. The whisky is complete and boasts notes of honey, vanilla, apples, pears, and a plethora of baking spices, making this an impressive drink neat or with a splash of water.
Bellevoye Bleu Triple Malt French Whisky
Here's something you don't see every day. Though one of the top whisky consuming nations in the world, it wasn't until 1987 that France's first whisky distillery opened. Since then growth has been exponential, putting an array of French whiskies on the map. One of the leading names is Bellevoye, whose non-peated whisky is blend of 3 different single malts from three different regions - Brittany, Alsace and Cognac. These whiskies range from 3 - 8 years and once blended, rests an additional year in new French Oak barrels in Cognac. The results are an incredibly smooth and elegant expression showcasing notes of caramel, vanilla and baked apples.
