Why Buy: Veuve Clicquot needs no introduction: countless celebrations have been ratified by a bottle of Veuve, and no night of indulgence is complete without it. And these two bottles — their La Grande Dame, the  tête de cuvée of the house, and their La Grande Dame Brut Rosé, its fraternal twin — are rousing testament to all that the house represents, matchless in their refinement, elegance, and purity. To celebrate the new vintage, The 2015 Brut is presented in a chic pastel box designed in collaboration with artist Paola Paronetto.

The Story: “Only one quality: the finest.” That's the credo of the house, and, fortunately for Veuve — and fortunately for all of us who love great Champagne — that audacity is more than backed up by an operation that heeds the verities and minds the details. What gives these wines their character and distinction? Four crucial elements contribute to the house signature: the predominance of Pinot Noir in each blend; the generous addition of priceless reserve wines; the extraordinary terroir of Veuve Clicquot’s own vineyards; and the long, slow maturation of the wines (longer than legally required).

Our Tasting Notes: At our recent tasting, La Grande Dame more than lived up to our high expectations, from the intense and powerful nose to the almost creamy richness on the palate to the enlivening note of acidity to the exceptionally long, smooth finish. The Brut Rosé subtly echoed it, adding a sophisticated floral note and delicate hints of strawberry and rose petal. Exquisite.

What to Pair Them With: La Grande Dame begs for oysters of any kind; salmon mousse; shrimp salad, and even lobster rolls. The Brut Rosé will find alchemy with nearly any kind of salad, particularly a caprese or a watermelon-feta-and-mint, and is a nimble dance partner for omelets, quiches, roast chicken, and sushi.

ABV: Both bottles are 12.5%.

Fun Fact: Last year, Veuve Clicquot celebrated its 250th anniversary, making it four years older than the United States. In the 94th year of its existence, when its founder, Madame Clicquot, died, it was selling 750,000 bottles annually.
