ULYSSES, CABERNET SAUVIGNON, OAKVILLE

NAPA VALLEY, CALIFORNIA 2015

While 2012 was just the first vintage of Ulysses, Christian Moueix, no stranger to historic properties, has been dominating the wine world for decades with Petrus and Dominus. With the purchase of 40 acres just one mile up the road from the Dominus Estate in 2008, Ulysses Vineyard was born. As expected, Ulysses jumped on the scene with the same rigorous standards as Dominus, a Cabernet-dominated wine displaying a much more Pauillac-like character with brooding notes of crème de cassis, chocolate, star anise, graphite and cigar box. In the last few vintages, the wine has continued to improve, showing off a more powerful side of Mouiex. Now with the 2015 vintage, it seems that Mouiex has achieved something no less than spectacular, with the wine master himself exclaiming that 2015 is “what we hoped for when we started in 2008.”

After sampling from the barrel, Robert Parker predicted the 2015 to be “the finest Mouiex has yet made from this vineyard…it has great fruit on the attack, a full-bodied mouthfeel, with moderately high tannin, but beautiful viscosity and purity.” With just 1,000 cases of the 2015 produced for the entire world, today’s wine was truly a feat to acquire. If you are a follower of Dominus, don’t miss this opportunity to experience the other side of Christian Moueix with his just released 2015 Ulysses. Due to our limited allocation at 15% off the regular price on bottle one, we suggest you place orders quickly before we sell out.
