“The strongest of warriors are these two – Time and Patience.” Leo Tolstoy, War and Peace

When it comes to a great 2006 Champagne, certain styles benefit from those “strongest of warriors,” time and patience, revealing layers of complexities, bountiful flavors and structure. By all accounts, the wines from 2006 are extraordinary, “supple and expressive” (Jancis Robinson) with blends of Chardonnay combining “richness and freshness” (Decanter). One such striking example is the 2006 Tsarine Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru, 100% Chardonnay and produced by Chanoine Freres of Reims, the second oldest house in Champagne. This wine is not only a stunningly brilliant example of Grand Cru Chardonnay at its finest but is inspired by the royal courts of Russia that Tolstoy revealed to many of us through prose. And if we know anything about Russian aristocrats, it's that they only indulged in the finest - think Champagne and caviar. Our offer today is comprised of the last available bottles of Tsarine’s 2006 Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru from this highly acclaimed Champagne house.

Chanoine Freres, established in 1730 during the reign of Louis XV, oozes with history and was the very first house to excavate a Champagne cellar in the region. It was during this time in the 18th century that the renown of Champagne quickly spread, and one of its initial supporters was the royal court of Russia. First introduced during the reign of Empress Anna (1730 - 1740), Champagne became the standard at the banquet tables of Russian monarchs and aristocrats, including Catherine the Great. It is this history and relationship that inspired Chanoine Freres to produce Tsarine, with the beautiful bottles influenced by the architecture of Russia’s iconic onion domes. The wines themselves are fashioned by Cellar Master Isabelle Tellier, one of the few women winemakers in the region, who was convinced years ago to consider oenology by Jacques Peters, the legendary Cellar Master at Veuve Clicquot. This has turned out to be an excellent career move as Isabelle’s wines, including those at De Venoge and Boizel, show outstanding balance, integration and finesse.

Using only Chardonnay from Grand Cru vineyards, the best of the best from the region, the 2006 Blanc de Blancs is bright and fresh, with laser like precision – a wine that will develop beautifully for years to come. For Isabelle, Chardonnay imparts “delicacy and elegance” and this exquisite, charming Champagne displays bright tones of citrus as well as generous amounts of minerality and acidity that will make any wine lover swoon. With today’s offer of up to 25%, this is a must for anyone’s collection to be enjoyed now or later. Again, these are the last cases available, so don’t miss out on this limited time offer!
