TERRALSOLE BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO

TUSCANY, ITALY 2015

It’s no secret that we’re huge fans of Brunello from Mario Bollag’s project, Terralsole. For winemakers like Mario, it isn't about empire; it's about passion. With an eye and palate toward traditional, elegant Brunello, Mario’s love for the wines led him to become a winemaker over 30 years ago after travelling all over the world, with stops in Central Africa, India, Nepal and Haiti—where he flew cargo for Haiti Air International. Founder of Il Palazzone, Mario eventually sold to Time Warner CEO Dick Parsons to break ground on his ultimate dream, Terralsole—a 30-acre farm sitting high on the southeastern slope of Montalcino right behind Biondi Santi, the estate synonymous with Brunello. With such a perfect setting, we at Concierge have been eagerly anticipating Mario’s recent releases from the superb 2015 vintage—a vintage that has been called a “fairy-tale” year for Brunello di Montalcino (James Suckling). For 2015, the region easily produced some of the most exciting Brunellos in years, with the best being “drop-dead gorgeous” (Kerin O’Keefe, Wine Enthusiast). After trying Mario’s 2015s, we can say they were well worth the wait and today we’re featuring two stunning examples with up to 25% off!

Mario’s vines are planted in two distinctly different areas—Pian Bossolino, which lies 1,200 feet above sea level surrounding the Terralsole winery and Fonte Lattaia, which lies 750 feet above sea level on southwestern facing slopes. The vineyards of Pian Bossolino produce intense wines with ample bouquets whereas the vines planted on the lower lying area lends to rounder more structured wines. It's the blend of these two areas that produces Mario’s powerful, yet refined Brunellos, including today’s 2015 ‘Be Happy’ Special Edition, where a portion of each bottle sold goes towards Mario’s foundation, Te Soley, benefitting Haiti. Having exchanged his barrique for 600L Tonneaux made exclusively from the tightly grained Allier oak, the wine combines the seductive perfumes of pure Sangiovese, with a supple core of sweet fruit and a firm grip that will improve over the next decade. Our second wine comes entirely from Pian Bossolino, a single-vineyard beauty crafted from upper-elevation grapes. Complex yet elegant, this is one you’ll want to lie down for a few years. Both wines weave together decadent dark fruit and earth characteristics into profound expressions of Brunello di Montalcino and are extraordinary examples of the vintage. Don’t miss your chance to add these collectible wines with our special, Mix & Match Concierge pricing!
