Born from a meeting of two wine legends, Vittorio Frescobaldi and Robert Mondavi, Tenuta Luce was an ambitious idea with the sole focus of utilizing the world-class terroir of Montalcino to produce wines unlike any other. Located in the historic heart of the appellation just outside the town of Montalcino Tenuta Luce has become a source for other-worldly wines showing the essence of Montalcino’s terroir with a nod to the sun-kissed style of the new world. Luce is the grand wine of the estate, a tribute to the golden and radiant sun that every day gives the winery warmth, energy and life.

While Brunello di Montalcino is the wine known from the area, Frescobaldi and Mondavi envisioned a blend that had all the hallmarks of Brunello – dark sumptuous fruits with savory spices unfurling on the finish, but with the added sexiness of Merlot bringing a fullness to the fruit and taming the aggressive Brunello tannins. Along with this, today’s offer includes the highly sought-after Brunello di Montalcino, made in tiny quantities and a true standard bearer for the region from an iconic vintage. At 350 to 420 meters of altitude Tenuta Luce is one of the highest situated wineries in Montalcino, allowing the winery the glorious opportunity to perfectly ripen grapes with optimal physiological maturity while maintaining acidity. The famous Galestro soil, which is well drained and poor in organic matter, offers ideal conditions for growing Sangiovese at higher altitudes while at lower altitudes, the soil is more clayey and therefore particularly suitable for growing Merlot.

The rarity of Super Tuscans from the Brunello area (Luce being one of the first ever) makes the Luce bottling an iconic standout for any wine lover. The 2020 Luce makes a wonderful complement to the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino. With the newly renovated and upgraded winery finished in 2016, Tenuta Luce continues to strive for perfection, their goal more than 20 years ago envisioned by 2 wine legends, almost realized.
