The Story: The vines at this postcard-perfect estate on the southernmost edge of Chianti Classico – founded by the Del Taja family in 1504 – were all planted from 1998 to 2001, and at an altitude of 1,400 feet above sea level. Both the elevation of the terroir and the age of the vines are vital to the character of this wine, but even more important is the composition of the soil, a rocky mix of limestone, loam, and galestro that stresses the grapes and coaxes forth their greatness.
Our Tasting Notes: A stunning nose, vivid with a layered array of floral notes and dark fruits, gives way to a complex, rich experience on the palate. This is a textural marvel of a wine from winemaker Lawrence Cronin and his team, silken and spreading, and the velvety elegance extends to the long, lingering finish.
