Rebuilding a lost Barolo cru—not an easy feat, but a challenge that the Rossi Cairo family was ready to take on. Though it may sound like the introduction to a new mystery movie, it’s actually the real-life tale of today’s offer. The family behind Piedmont’s biodynamic La Raia wines, the Rossi Cairos acquired the Tenuta Cucco property in Serralunga d’Alba in 2015, and the acquisition included vineyard land in the heart of Barolo cru ‘Cerrati.’ This growing region, formerly known as ‘Cascina Cucco,’ was historically recognized as a key site for long-lived, fine Barolo wine; the cru was even included in Renato Ratti’s pioneering Carta del Barolo. Without guidance for several decades, the cru had fallen almost out of memory when the Rossi Cairos jumped at the opportunity to reinvigorate this once-great site.
