Our Tasting Notes: Thirty years in the cellar has wrought a rich, layered complexity and a deep, smooth-edged maturity. The nose sends up notes of dark chocolate, sea salt, and seaweed, but all of them so well-integrated, and with a softness that surprised us. The palate picks up on that seaweed character, adding notes of tobacco, toasted nuts, and peaches and cream, along with that certain something, a hard-to-define quality that speaks to the incomparable magic of the Isle of Skye, a kind of wildness and vitality. The finish manages the difficult trick of being, all at once, salty and spicy and smoky and sweet. And smooth.
ABV: 49.5%/49.6% ** [Talisker's own info has it both ways] (99 proof), non-chill filtered, with no coloring added.
Fun Fact: Talk about legacy. Talisker received the ultimate shout-out from writer Robert Louis Stevenson, who, in his 1887 poem “The Scotsman’s Return From Abroad," wrote: "The king o’ drinks as I conceive it/Talisker, Isla, or Glenlivet."
