SNAKE + HERRING

MARGARET RIVER, AUSTRALIA

Though the wine world is full of varieties to explore, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay remain two stars that simply cannot be dethroned. And while regions like Napa, Bordeaux, and Burgundy may be first to mind, the truth is that to find stellar, world-class examples (often at tremendous value), you should head to Australia's Margaret River. To quote Matt Kramer of Wine Spectator: "The top rank of Margaret River Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon is, simply put, in the top rank in the world. And by that, I'm including the likes of Burgundy (for the Chardonnay) and Bordeaux and Napa Valley (for Cabernet Sauvignon)." It’s been a while since we’ve had the opportunity to offer any wines from Snake + Herring, one of our perennial favorite Margaret River producers (whose wines have struck a chord with our customers over the years), but today you Cabernet and Chardonnay lovers are in for a treat. We have an incredible lineup of four high-scoring new releases from the Snake + Herring portfolio, two Chardonnays and two Cabernets—these are unbeatable values, made even more unbeatable with special Mix & Match pricing up to 26% off!

Snake + Herring takes its name from the two nicknames of the producer duo operating out of Margaret River. Without regional restraint of owning their own vineyards, they are fanatical about sourcing excellent fruit for their wines, even going as far as selecting only a few rows from a certain vineyard. The grapes for the 2019 ‘Tough Love’ Chardonnay are hand-selected from three sub-regions noted for their individual characteristics that exude structure, elegance, and class. Already very drinkable, this Chardonnay offers up juicy notes of white nectarine and grapefruit. The 2018 ‘Dirty Boots’ Cabernet is sourced from four small blocks: two from Yallingup, one from Wilyabrup, and one block from the inland Treeton subregion. The Yallingup Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards have provided the earthy, chocolate, blackberry notes with fleshy texture; the Wilyabrup components contribute ripe blackcurrant and violet aromatics with dense tannins; and Treeton offers the savory elements of olive, herbs, and dark chocolate.

Accordinging to the winery, the 2018 ‘Corduroy’ Chardonnay is one of the best vintages to date of this popular label. A creamy, layered texture leads to a profile of ripe melon, nectarine, and a subtle almond note on the finish. And finally, the 2018 'Cannonball' Cabernet Sauvignon + Merlot + Petit Verdot surpasses even high expectations. The wine aged 15 months in French oak (combination of new and used) and exudes aromatics of blackcurrant, chocolate, blackberry, and earth with warm notes of spice and toast. With wines of this caliber, one might assume that they’d boast hefty price tags, but today’s lineup defies this notion by leaps and bounds. This is an offer that calls for stocking up!
