SCAPA SINGLE MALT SCOTCH WHISKY

ORKNEY, SCOTLAND

Why Buy: You’ve got to love the age statements on this knockout duo of single malt releases from the much-loved Scapa Distillery: 16 years and 21 years. But even more than that, and even more than the superb maturity they show in the glass, what impresses us most is their strong terroir character — a distinctive, untamed spirit that could only come from Scotland’s famed Orkney Islands — and their detailed sense of craft (Scapa's rare Lomond still remains the only one in all of the country to produce single malt whisky). A couple slow, savoring sips, and you’re transported to the windswept beauty of one of Scotland's northernmost distilleries, a landmark facility, opened in 1885, where tradition, nature, and a rare commitment to patience all converge to create something truly extraordinary.

Our Tasting Notes:

* Scapa 21 Year Old: This dram opens with a striking noseful of homemade apricot jam and fresh raspberries, balanced by the succeeding waves of subtle oak and spice. On the palate, it's a luscious dance of tropical fruits and vanilla cream, with a finish that lingers like a sweet Orkney sunset

Scapa 16 Year Old: Here's a malt that sings of its origins. The nose offers an intriguing blend of juicy mangoes and rich leather, underpinned by vanilla and citrus. Sip, and let the parade begin — a smooth, stunning processional of spiced apple pie, pineapple, and oak. The finish? Complex, fruity, and gently spicy.

The Story: On the shores of Scapa Flow, time seems to move at its own pace, much like the gentle lapping of waves against the Orkney coastline. Scapa's story, too, is a story of independence. Also, of resilience and character. Through world wars and changing tides in the whisky industry, it has remained steadfast in its aims and values since it opened, in 1885, producing malts that insist on speaking of their unique terroir. The distillery's commitment to traditional methods, including that cherished Lomond still, sets it apart in an industry that often seems to be racing towards modernization. But let’s not mistake tradition for stagnation. Scapa has always looked forward, balancing its heritage with innovation. This forward-thinking approach, coupled with an unwavering respect for its environment, has allowed Scapa to produce whiskies that are both timeless and distinctly contemporary. In every bottle of Scapa, you'll find more than just whisky. You'll discover a piece of Orkney — its history, its landscape, and its indomitable spirit. It's this sense of place, this connection to the land and sea, that makes Scapa so important, and also so beloved.

ABV: 21 Year Old, cask strength (varies by batch); 16 Year Old, 48% (96 proof). Both are non chill-filtered.

Fun Fact: Scapa Flow, a body of water in the Orkney Islands, is derived from the Old Norse word "Skalpaflói," which translates to "bay of the long isthmus."

Our Guarantee: We source these single malts directly from the distillery, ensuring that every bottle arrives with impeccable provenance. Secure yours today and embark on your Orcadian adventure!
