Coming on the heels of several high-scoring Renato Ratti 'Marcenasco' vintages (97 points for 2016 and 95 points for 2015), expectations are high for the thrilling 2017 debut. It was another warm year, but the wines released thus far have defied expectation. Vinous reports, “the 2017s are mid-weight Barolos with the classic structure of Nebbiolo. They are often intensely aromatic. Acids and tannins are prominent in many wines. The fruit profiles are ripe, often distinctly red-toned, but not cooked or over-ripe. Perhaps most importantly, the 2017 Barolos are very true to site...the best 2017s are exceptionally polished, vivid and flat-out delicious.” It's true that not every Barolo is created equal, and quality can vary among producers; the wines from top growers such as the renowned Barolo producer Renato Ratti (now often referred to as simply 'Ratti') are stunning in their complexity and showcase the pinnacle of this vintage. Demand for the iconic Ratti wines is always sky-high, so we were thrilled to receive an allocation of the new 2017 Barolo 'Marcenasco’ for our offer today, along with the tremendous values Barbera d’Asti and Langhe Nebbiolo—perfect for enjoyment while your Barolo continues its maturation. For one week only, we’re offering special Mix & Match pricing before the wines hit stores!
Hailed as the benchmark producer of classic La Morra, crafting wines celebrated as the finest true expression of one of Barolo's most prestigious communes, Renato Ratti is an iconic visionary. Referred to as the great innovator of Barolo, Ratti drew the first map of the zone's exceptional crus and produced the first ever single-vineyard Barolo, Marcenasco, in 1965. With many communes in Barolo known for producing extremely tannic wines that require extensive ageing, La Morra stands out for its approachability: known for its fragrant aromatics, elegance, and grace along with the depth and power so quintessential to the region. Internationally recognized for producing wines of finesse and refinement, Renato Ratti is now run by Renato's son Pietro, who continues to nurture 86 acres across six vineyards while maintaining impeccable standards and attention to detail. Their ‘Marcenasco’ comes from a blend of three vineyards in the Annunziata subzone, with vines averaging 30 years old. The grapes are handpicked, de-stemmed, and crushed, followed by a 15-day maceration in stainless steel. The wine is then aged in a combination of large Slavonian Oak casks and smaller French oak barrels for two years prior to bottling. Unforgettably aromatic with incredible structure and depth, the 2017 Marcenasco is approachable now but will age gracefully for decades—this is a must-have for any collector. Our allocation is limited, so don't miss this opportunity to buy this wine at an incredible price!
