RENATO RATTI, BAROLO 'MARCENASCO'

PIEDMONT, ITALY 2015

For collectors in the know, there is little doubt that the 2015 vintage in Barolo is outstanding - with wines from top estates turning out remarkable, compelling wines built for the long haul. Some might argue that quality varied by producer, and it’s true, not every Barolo is created equal. However, the wines we tasted from top growers like that of renowned Barolo producer Renato Ratti were nothing short of dazzling. With James Suckling noting that “the full capability of the Nebbiolo grape’s expressive nature is alive in Barolo 2015…offering instant appeal as well as more in-depth attraction…it is the way in which these wines combine power with elegance. They are thrilling to taste.” Although scores have just started to trickle in, it’s clear that the highly anticipated vintage is in high demand, so we’ve decided to get ahead of the game. With an allocation of the highly acclaimed Renato Ratti Marcenasco, we’re featuring their recently released 50th Anniversary 2015 vintage at an incredible price before it hits stores. Hailed as the benchmark producer of classic La Morra, crafting wines celebrated as the finest true expression of one of Barolo’s most prestigious communes, Renato Ratti is an iconic visionary. Referred to as the great innovator of Barolo, Ratti drew the first map of the zone’s exceptional crus and produced the first ever single-vineyard Barolo, Marcenasco, in 1965.

With many communes in Barolo known for producing extremely tannic wines that require extensive ageing, La Morra stands out for its approachability: known for its fragrant aromatics, elegance and grace along with depth and power, quintessential to the region. Internationally recognized for producing wines of finesse and refinement, Renato Ratti is now run by Renato’s son Pietro, who continues to nurture 86 acres across 6 vineyards while maintaining impeccable standards and attention to detail. Their Marcenasco comes from a blend of three vineyards in the Annunziata subzone, with vines averaging 30 years old. The grapes are hand-picked, de-stemmed and crushed, followed by a 15-day maceration in stainless steel. The wine is then aged in a combination of large Slavonian Oak casks and smaller French oak barrels for two years prior to bottling. Intensely fragrant and superbly textured with incredible structure and depth, the 2015 Marcenasco is approachable now but will age gracefully for decades. Celebrating its 50th Anniversary bottling with such a heralded vintage couldn’t be a more perfect pairing, so we’re offering you a special pre-arrival price. With 20% off by the bottle and 25% off ($52.47/ btl) for six-bottle orders which will be packed in a special anniversary wood case, this is a must-have for any collector. As our allocation is limited, don’t miss this opportunity to buy this wine at an incredible price!
