Specs:

**Remus Gatsby Reserve 2024 is aged 15 years and bottled at 104.9 proof. A medley of two signature mash bills, the first, 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley, the second, 60% corn, 36% rye, and 4% malted barley.

**Series VIII of Remus Repeal Reserve includes 9% of a 17-year-aged bourbon containing 21% rye; 24% of a 10-year-aged bourbon comprising 21% rye, and 67% of a second 10-year-aged bourbon containing 36% rye.

The Story: George Remus, the man behind Remus Bourbon, was known far and wide as King of the Bootleggers, and used his knowledge both of the pharmaceutical industry and the law to find loopholes in the Volstead Act that enabled him to dispense booze to the masses for "medicinal purposes." Remus is long gone, but his spirit lives on at this bold and ambitious producer, which distills its bourbons at the historic Ross & Squibb Distillery, just miles from Cincinnati where Remus oversaw his Prohibition-era empire. Legend has it, Fitzgerald’s titular character ‘Jay Gatsby’ was inspired by Remus. Some say Fitzgerald and Remus’ fortuitous 1918 meeting began the ‘drums of destiny’. Others believe Fitzgerald gathered plenty of influence from Remus’ many newspaper exposés.

**Remus Gatsby Reserve 2024: This 15-year-old straight bourbon whiskey boldly showcases its age and complexity, drawing from two distinct mash bills to create a powerful, multifaceted experience. The nose is robust and commanding, bursting with dark caramel, charred oak, and black cherries. Beneath the surface, notes of cracked black pepper and tobacco leaf emerge, with a slight undercurrent of vanilla bean. Full-bodied and assertive, the palate opens with a powerful rush of sweet corn and dark toffee, balanced by an intense wave of rye spice and dark chocolate. Bold notes of black licorice, leather, and espresso build mid-palate, adding layers of depth.

**Remus Repeal Reserve Series VIII: The unique medley of extra-aged bourbon gives Remus Repeal Reserve Series VIII an aroma of cherry, candied pecans and hint of leather on the nose; flavors of maple syrup and cherry followed by fig, and a finish featuring vanilla and oak with lingering notes of baking spice.

Fun Fact: Remus was Gatsby-esque in more than just having been a bootlegger. At a party for his wife, in 1923, she danced in the water in a scanty bathing suit, along with other minimally-dressed dancers, to the accompaniment of a 15-piece orchestra.
