REDBREAST MOSCATEL CASK LIMITED EDITION
SINGLE POT STILL IRISH WHISKEY
IRELAND
WHY BUY:
In the world of Irish whiskey, certain names carry an almost mythical weight. Redbreast stands foremost among them, and not just because of its shelfloads of honors and history, but because it possesses an incalculable allure. And the newest bottle in their famed Iberian Series might just be the greatest bottling we’ve ever seen from them, a work of absolute genius when it comes to maturation and a fantastic deal at just $99. This limited edition release spent 24 months in American oak before finishing in Moscatel wine casks from the hills of Málaga, Spain, and what all that time spent resting and developing adds up to is incomparable elegance, balance, depth, length ... a whisky for the ages.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:
At the 2025 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, Redbreast claimed the title of world's most awarded international distillery. This continues their reign as the most-awarded Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey in the world, a distinction confirmed by the six most influential tasting assemblies over the past dozen years.
OUR TASTING NOTES:
The Moscatel casks from Bodegas Quitapenas, a family-owned operation since 1880, work their magic from the very first nosing. Fresh florals and zesty fruits fairly leap from the glass, with, behind them, a note of vanilla oak to lay down a steady, sinuous bassline. On the palate, those vibrant fruits mix and mingle with textured layers of toffee and honeycomb and (the touch that beguiles and keeps you guessing) dried herbs. The finish, redolent of still spices and wine-seasoned oak, lingers with marvelous persistence. The integration is impeccable, as is the way this single malt builds its story, in layer after controlled layer. A massive triumph.
THE STORY:
In conveying the magical essence of its place, Redbreast is nearly without rival in the world of spirits. That place? Idyllic County Cork, where the soft, clear waters of the Dungourney River meander through Clonmult's verdant hills, and the renowned Munster region provides both malted and unmalted barley of uncommon character. Beyond these extraordinary gifts of nature, what sets Redbreast apart is the way Master Blender David McCabe orchestrates each element. McCabe brings decades of expertise to bear in his command post. His selection of casks (ex-bourbon barrels, Oloroso sherry casks, and ruby port casks) is as inspired as it is sensitive. With every new bottling, it seems, he coaxes ever-new dimensions and fresh colorations from a much-beloved expression.
ABV:
46% ABV (92 proof).
FUN FACT:
When W & A Gilbey introduced the brand in the early 1900s, their chairman, an avid birdwatcher, took one look at the whiskey's rich, reddish hue and decided that they had only one option before them when it came to a name. They had to honor Ireland's beloved robin redbreast.
