If “Côte-Rôtie-like” is ever mentioned in a wine review, my ears instantly perk up. The style of these Northern Rhône Syrahs is among the most unique in the world, so I’m especially intrigued if the comparison is drawn of a 97-point California wine. The PharaohMoans project was the brainchild of John Schwartz, owner of Amuse Bouche Winery in Napa Valley, and Chef Bryan Ogden, recipient of the James Beard Award for best restaurant 2003. The duo teamed up with Southern France and Bordeaux winemaker Guillaume Fabre “to create the best Syrah in California under the Paso Robles appellation” (PharaohMoans).
