Considered an Australian “first growth,” Penfolds Grange is an undeniable wine icon whose age-worthy wines have long held premium space in collectors’ cellars. The first vintage of Penfolds Grange Hermitage from 1951 sold for nearly $40,000 in 2017 and even recent releases command top dollar. While Penfolds can be credited with showing the world the remarkable potential of Australian terroir, today marks an exciting evolution in the brand’s history—an expansion into California. That’s right! This has been a project more than 30 years in the making; in the 1990s, Penfolds took Shiraz cuttings from the Kalimna vineyard in Barossa (the source of Penfolds Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz) to Camatta Hills Vineyards in California’s Paso Robles, and the remainder of the Penfolds California wines were sourced from the “best of the best” Napa Valley grapes (Treasury Wine Estates). Today we are thrilled to present a trio from this highly anticipated ‘California Collection’ to our customers: Bin 600, a classic Penfolds Cabernet-Shiraz blend; Bin 704, a stunning Napa Valley Cabernet; and Bin 194, a showstopping Cabernet Sauvignon unlike any other you’ve tried, a blend of premium Penfolds South Australian and Napa Valley Cabernets. For one week, you can collect all three with special Mix & Match pricing up to 15% off!

Penfolds California Collection wines are made in the Napa Valley, with Penfolds winemakers on the ground, in the cellars, and in the vineyards. The ultimate goal was to combine time-honored Penfolds winemaking techniques with California terroir—a merging of the famous Penfolds house style with California fruit. Each of today’s wines is stylistically unique, but each seems to find that balance between classic and modern that Penfolds has perfected.

An amazing value, Bin 600 is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Shiraz, sourced from Napa Valley, Sonoma, and Paso Robles. After 16 months in French oak, the finished wine weaves between notes of blackberry, peppery spice, and fragrant herbs. Bin 704 draws inspiration from the idea that the winemaking hemispheres mirror each other; it is so named to “mirror” its Australian Bin 407 counterpart. The wine is 100% Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon; the dark fruit core is wrapped in layers of complexity and ample spice and earthiness. A silken texture unveils nuances of dark chocolate, glazed cherry, and thyme. And finally, Bin 149 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from South Australia and Napa Valley that aged 16 months in 80% new French and 20% new American oak. The wine is opulent and focused with aromas of mocha, dark fruit, roasted meats, ginger, and oak—“classically Penfolds in character, yet altogether different in structure” (Penfolds). Don’t miss your opportunity to collect the inaugural vintage from this highly anticipated Penfolds project!
