This bottle of Private Select, part of their celebrated Estate Collection, is our last scheduled release for 2025, and we have every expectation that it's likewise going to go justlikethat.
Drawn from hand-selected aged barrel stocks, blended in small batches, and aged for 10 years, it clocks in at an uncompromising 106.8 proof and goes down with all the grace and nuance that we’ve come to expect from these artful artisans.

What sets Private Select apart from other Penelope releases and the competition are — well, two things.
One is its unusual, four-grain mash bill (74% corn, 20% rye, 1% wheat, and 5% malted barley), which brings uncommon depth and complexity.
The other is Penelope's obsessive approach to barrel selection, which is what has endeared them to collectors and mixologists. We're talking about small-batch production using #4 staves and #2 heads, and — to ensure the natural character and integrity of the bourbon — bottled uncut and non-chill filtered.
Our recent tasting turned into a festive occasion, as we all settled in for what we knew, after that first nosing, was going to be a treat.
Those aromatics (rich, dark caramel, subtle cinnamon, and a persistent red fruit character) primed us beautifully for the drinking experience. On the palate, caramel and brown sugar set the durable and impressive foundation, while cherry and baking spice provide the delicate ornamental work. The finish brings a wonderful vanilla honey bun sweetness that’s balanced by oak spice and light smoke. It’s the kind of building of effect that only the very best bourbons can pull off.
