CHÂTEAU LATOUR
BORDEAUX, FRANCE 2020
A bottle of Château Latour for just over a hundred bucks.
Yes, believe it.
But wait, it gets ever better: that bottling just so happens to belong to the exceptional 2020 vintage in Bordeaux.
I speak of Latour’s Pauillac, which we don’t typically offer with our Latour releases, making today a rare and wonderful opportunity to acquire a wine from this legendary estate that's approachable early.
This so-called third wine is vivid and richly expressive, and pays honor to its exalted terroir. James Suckling extolled its aromatics (abundant with “plums, berries, ash and hot stones”), and called it “juicy and intense."
But (as the late-night commercials say): that's not all.
We're also fortunate to be able to bring you an insta-legend, an all-timer — the 2015 vintage of Latour, which we believe will take its rightful place in the Latour pantheon, alongside the epic vintages of 1982 and 1929.
Add 10 years of bottle age, and this is a wine you simply cannot afford to miss.
And one more ...
Rounding out this triumphal triumvirate is the Les Forts de Latour 2018, the estate's renowned “second wine,” which bears nearly 8 years of bottle age — along with 96 points, from Jeb Dunnuck: "Rich, full-bodied, concentrated, and yet still perfectly balanced,” he wrote, "it's another brilliant second wine from Latour that competes with most estates’ top wines."
Perfectly put, Jeb.
Few second wines have managed to achieve the prestige of Les Forts, which has had collectors lining up for it ever since its debut, in 1966. The 2018 is a powerful and intense expression of Latour terroir, and comes awfully close, in our estimation, to Grand Cru Classé quality.
All three bottles, we should note, have been pampered since birth. Because Latour opted out of Bordeaux's En Primeur system more than a decade ago (and only releases to the public when it deems them to be ready), its wines are resting in absolute pristine condition in its legendary cellars.
We always say: when you buy a bottle of Château Latour, you’re buying more than a wine; you’re buying a guarantee.
And also: a piece of history.
The renowned vineyards, of course, have been farmed since the Middle Ages, with some documents dating the estate’s emergence to the early 12th century. But what makes Latour so extraordinary is that its history is not a dusty history; it's a living history. The past lives on in the present, thanks to a winemaking team that blends art and science as no other, and that honors and affirms its hallowed terroir.
We count ourselves fortunate to have acquired allocations of these exceptional releases for our Concierge family, but be forewarned: we do anticipate that these bottles will go quickly. As always, though, there’s no minimum order required, and remember (because it cannot be emphasized enough): you’re guaranteed perfect provenance with every bottle. So stock up today!
