On a 629-mile path from the Atlantic Coast to central France, the Loire Valley meanders along the longest and last wild river in Europe. This region has long been famous for producing world-class white wines, and our lineup today—a Pouilly-Fumé, Sancerre, and top-value varietally labeled Sauvignon Blanc—showcases the complexity and individuality that Loire Sauvignon Blanc can achieve. The Loire Valley’s appellations are arguably the best terroirs in the world for producing this dynamic grape, and you'd be hard pressed to find a more enthusiastic producer than Pascal Jolivet. The Loire vintner has helped bring Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé to greater recognition in the U.S. market, and his philosophy of working in harmony with nature yields wines of incredible purity, minerality, and precision. Today, we’re elated to offer all three of his ‘Les Franches’ wines with Mix & Match pricing up to 26% off. It’s time to stock up for the warmer months ahead!

Named after Jolivet’s ‘Les Franches’ estate, each of today’s wines is inspired by tradition and the strong identity of the unique terroir of Pouilly-Fumé and the greater Loire Valley. The ‘Les Franches’ Pouilly-Fumé comes from a 20-hectare area of organically farmed vines within the appellation. Pouilly-Fumé sits on the right bank of the Loire River, directly across from Sancerre. Though their locations are seemingly identical, the dominant soils of each appellation vary, lending to distinct characteristics within the wines.

The soil in Pouilly-Fumé is dominated by the famous Silex (composed of a higher proportion of flint), which gives the wine a vibrant, mineral note along with a "gunflint" aroma which often characterizes the wines of the appellation. While areas within Sancerre certainly have areas with Silex as well, this appellation is most famous for its vineyards of Kimmeridgian limestone soils, also a dominant feature in Chablis and portions of Champagne. Grapes grown in Kimmeridgian soil tend to produce age-worthy wines with fruit-and-mineral cores and racy backbones of acidity. The ‘Les Franches’ Sauvignon Blanc, sourced from throughout the Loire, is an amazing value that boasts elegant citrus and pear notes with soft minerality on the finish—it’s a wine to drink all year long. Each of today’s wines possess its own distinct personality, but if you seek powerful, elegant, mineral-driven whites, Pascal Jolivet's ‘Les Franches’ lineup will exceed your expectations.
