The Story: Tullahoma, Tennessee, is Orphan Barrel's base of operations, an hour-and-a-half south of Nashville, three hours west of Knoxville. It's a tiny hamlet, with small-town charms. But, fortunately for all of us, this is not a team made up of homebodies. They're restless and relentless seekers, bottling rare and exquisite whiskeys. This one? It’s aged for 18 years in charred oak barrels at the cathedral of American whiskey, Stitzel Weller.
Our Tasting Notes: The nose awakens your senses for richness and complexity – aromas of toasted oak, creamy vanilla, baking spices, and red fruit rise from the glass – and that promise is more than delivered upon; on the palate, the bourbon transforms into a soft, paved field of caramel, honey, and vanilla. A touch of oak announces the finish, which unfurls with velvety smoothness. A triumph of time, patience, and artistry.
