The 2023 vintage in Tuscany is legendary, folks, and right on the heels of Sassicaia notching a 100-point score (a wine you all smartly snapped up when we offered it recently), along comes this monumental expression of Ornellaia, another 100-pointer from the vintage and the estate’s first since 2016.
Jane Anson hailed it as "muscular … juicy … fragrant,” with a “lightness of touch set against an unmistakable punch.”
We’re right there with her, and would even go so far as to say that it ranks not just among the best bottles we’ve ever had from Ornellaia, but among the best we’ve ever had out of Bolgheri. Power and finesse, dark fruit and subtle herbaceousness, richness without heaviness, structure without rigidity — it’s all here.
As a bonus, we’ve also secured an allocation of their premium white wine, their Ornellaia Bianco, which took home 99 points, with Anson singling out its “finely tuned tannins” and “grip,” and summing it up thusly: “a fabulous wine that deserves its place among the great Sauvignon Blancs of the world.”
This vintage was Olga Fusari’s last as winemaker, and this Bianco stands among her finest achievements.

So I won’t plow old ground, except to say that the secret of the estate, founded in 1981 by Marchese Lodovico Antinori, is really no secret at all.
