It was no surprise last year to see the elegant Barbarescos of Bruno Nada, one of the “most underrated and overlooked growers in Piedmont” (Antonio Galloni), receive so much positive feedback. Though Barbaresco shares many similar qualities to its Nebbiolo-producing neighbor Barolo, what sets it apart is its ethereal nature – elegant yet powerful, it can often seem more approachable in its youth with an uncanny ability to age for decades. After selling through our initial allocation of Nada Fiorenzo’s 2013 ‘Rombone’ Barbaresco, we went back to the winery and were fortunate enough to secure more of this remarkable, 94-point beauty.

Crafted from old vines that date back to 1964, the 100% Nebbiolo ‘Rombone’ is considered the Nada family’s flagship Barbaresco, a knockout comprised of some of the finest vineyards within the commune of Treiso that have been in the family since 1921. The quality and richness of the grapes here is outstanding, as up until the 19th century Nebbiolo from Treiso had been used to produce Barolo. The cru is southwest facing with soils of calcareous clay and limestone, giving this Barbaresco extraordinary complexity and longevity. After 12 months in barrique, the wine is aged an additional 12 months in oak and 6 months in bottle before its release.

Wonderfully complex aromas of herbs, lavender and espresso lead to flavors of black cherry, plum, licorice and spice. Dense and rich, the wine is drinking exceptionally now yet is made to last for decades to come. My favorite food-pairing style from the Nada family (think braised beef and roasted vegetables), this allocation is also limited, so with up to 25% off we suggest acting quickly to secure your orders!
