MAISON EDOUARD DELAUNAY, 'SEPTEMBRE'
Four years ago, Laurent Delaunay purchased and relaunched the family estate started by his great-great-grandfather and the wines of the historic Maison Edouard Delaunay were reintroduced to the world with much anticipation at last year’s International Wine Challenge—the competition recognized as one of the most rigorous, selective and influential in the industry. 52 medals and 8 trophies later, it is safe to say that Delaunay has secured his property’s status as one of the great houses of Burgundy. Today we’re featuring two amazing value Burgundies (you read that right—Mix & Match pricing brings each bottle as low as sub-$15!) from Delaunay: the ‘Septembre’ Rouge from the impressive 2018 vintage and the recently released 2019 ‘Septembre’ Blanc.
Founded in 1893, Maison Edouard Delaunay has a rich and unique history, including stints in the 20th century as the official supplier of companies such as Compagnie Générale Transatlantique, that of the Orient Express, as well as Air France. The reputation of the house was renowned throughout the world and was for many years entrusted as the wine distributor of other great Burgundy estates like the iconic Domaine de la Romanée Conti. After Laurent’s father sold the estate to the Boisset family in the 1990s, Laurent and his wife Catherine were able to reclaim the historic property in 2017. Located at Château de Charmont in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, the Delaunay’s completely renovated the vat room and family cellars and hired up-and-coming winemaking star Christophe Briotet as cellarmaster to oversee an exceptional range of wines mainly from the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Working with 140 different parcels, Premier and Grand Cru locations, each plot is hand harvested and fermented separately.
Delaunay’s ‘Septembre’ project includes a Pinot Noir and a Chardonnay, contemporary wines that balance the elegance and finesse of Burgundy for a new generation. More than 80% of the grapes for the ‘Septembre’ Rouge cuvée come from the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, while the remaining wines come from the Couchois area (northwestern Côte Chalonnaise). The 2019 Blanc was sourced from some of the finest terroir for Chardonnay: one third from the Côte d’Or (principally the Côte de Beaune and 10% from the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits) for elegance, one third from the heights of the Mâconnais (Igé) for ripeness and exotic fruit aromas and flavors, and one third from the Yonne in the Chablis region for minerality and freshness. Don’t miss your opportunity to secure these incredible values with special Mix & Match pricing that brings each bottle sub-$15. Now’s your chance to stock up!
