KISTLER VINEYARDS

SONOMA, CALIFORNIA 2024

WHY BUYWe’re so excited to have secured this allocation, folks. Quite simply, Kistler is one of the greatest Chardonnay producers in not only California, but the entire world. Add in a 2024 vintage that many are calling one of the best of the past 50 years in Sonoma, and you get wines of singular distinction, purity, character, and finesse. No less an eminence than Robert Parker once declared of Kistler that, if it were somehow to be transplanted to Burgundy's Côte d'Or, it would "quickly gain a reputation as glorious as any producer of Burgundy grand crus" and that its Pinot Noirs are among "the greatest made in the New World.” No argument here. But be sure to snap your bottles and cases up today; our allocation won't last long.

OUR TASTING NOTES:

  • The 2024 Chardonnay gives you the impression of a film editor cutting a film to the essential truths — which, in wine terms, means that volcanic Sonoma Mountain terroir expressing itself cleanly and directly. There’s a strong presence of stone fruit, but it doesn’t predominate — nothing does; running alongside it is a subtle note of chalk, along with a decided mineral undertow. This is the kind of winemaking we love to see, the character developed naturally, without tricks. Kistler's three-decade commitment to its single-heritage clone is the key here, and results in a wine of striking focus and intensity.
  • The Pinot Noir exudes coastal elegance. Wild strawberry and rose petal emerge like watercolors on wet paper, followed by a delicate note of baking spice that adds a gentle, spreading warmth. There's something almost novelistic about how the wine unfolds, with each sip revealing new chapters, new revelations, new details, while at the same time, and impressively, maintaining perfect narrative coherence. It finishes long and earthy, and with that wonderful sense of mystery that you find in all great Pinot Noirs.

THE STORY:  Kistler's founding philosophy in 1978 amounted to a radical proposition: what if California winemakers stopped trying to reinvent the wheel and simply committed to perfecting it instead? Their approach reads like a manifesto for the quietly fanatical — one heritage Chardonnay clone planted across fifteen vineyards, two carefully selected Burgundian Pinot clones field-blended for harmony rather than complexity's sake. The result is winemaking that is more a kind of curation, where every decision serves the singular goal of letting terroir speak without interference, and as fully and richly as possible.

THE METHODS:  Native yeasts have been essential to their process from the very beginning. As has night harvesting, which, the argument goes, preserves the kind of freshness that daylight would steal. Kistler’s decision to bottle unfined and unfiltered is, in many ways, the ultimate expression of confidence in their terroir, a kind of declaration that perfect fruit needs no cosmetic enhancement.

OUR GUARANTEE:  As always, we only buy and source directly from the winery to ensure that your wines arrive as they should, and as you deserve: with perfect provenance guaranteed. Secure yours today!
