KATHRYN HALL, CABERNET SAUVIGNON

NAPA VALLEY, CALIFORNIA 2016

Kathryn and Craig Hall have been establishing their eponymous winery as a Napa Valley Cabernet powerhouse since they began acquiring top Napa vineyard land in the mid-90s. Their wines have made multiple appearances on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 lists, and they show no signs of slowing down. Whether you’re a long-time fan of HALL wines or a more recent convert, “it’s time to jump on the Hall bandwagon, as they are doing everything right, and their wines are among the most exciting being made in the world today” (Robert Parker). Continuing this trend of stellar wine is the newest release of the 2016 Kathryn Hall: the rich, opulent wine demonstrates the skill and craftsmanship of winemaker Steve Leveque as well as the distinctive character of Napa Valley’s tremendous terroir. Simply put, we were blown away by what we tasted.

Fruit from Sacrashe Estate in Rutherford is the foundation of the 2016 Kathryn Hall; this was HALL’s first vineyard and reliably provides the Kathryn Hall label’s most distinctive Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard is located atop the eastern ridge of the Vaca mountain range in Rutherford and is known for extremely limiting volcanic tuff soils and gentle sloping aspects. While Sacrashe fruit forms the backbone of the wine, selections from Napa Valley’s finest mountain appellations are included to bring symmetry and finesse to the composition. HALL’s viticulture team tirelessly combs through every detail—on a vine-by-vine, cluster-by-cluster basis—to coax the best out of their premier vineyards. Within the winery, Leveque and team work to guarantee that the meticulously managed grapes transform into wine that showcases varietal character and site specificity.

Kathryn Hall Cabernet Sauvignon is always the first wine blended every year and is the heart of the HALL portfolio. 2016 is a powerful vintage: deep ruby in color with enticing aromas of cassis, cacao, and black tea, and layered notes of dark plum, ripe blackberry, anise, pine needle, and violet. The wine was aged for 26 months in 80% new French oak and has a firm streak of acidity to balance the density of the fruit; the texture on the palate is silky and tannins incredibly well integrated. For one week, we’re offering a special Concierge price of $174.97 on this bottling that is incredibly impressive now and will unfold in beautiful layers over time.
