One of the reasons Paso Robles has emerged as the wine destination so many of us thought it could become is the migration of talented young winemakers from Napa, many of them drawn by the chance both to branch out and to put an entire region on the map.

Among the stars of this movement is the great Scott Shirley, who trained his palate at Opus One and spent 13 years in Napa, and who, today, is the winemaker at Justin, maker of some of the best Bordeaux-style blends in the New World — including its signature Isosceles Reserve, which is rapidly approaching household-name status.

Jeb Dunnuck has long been a booster of these beautiful, impeccably balanced wines, which he summed up with but a single word: "fabulous."

If you want to see all the elements of Shirley's craft on display, look no further than the Justin Isosceles Reserve 2015, which may be the finest bottling yet from this stellar estate. We are so thrilled to have partnered with the winery to be able to bring it to you.

Wine Enthusiast awarded 94 points, hailing its "rich aromas of candied black cherry, dark caramel, licorice and mocha" and "exuberant" palate, "offering a black currant flavor against a chalky texture."

Shirley drew from the most distinctive barrels from the top lots of each varietal to determine the final blend. Unsurprisingly, Cabernet Sauvignon is dominant in the mix (amounting to 76% of the bottle), with Cabernet Franc (13%) and Merlot (11%) providing depth and softening. The wine was aged for 24 months in 100% new French oak — which provides excellent structure while avoiding the strong vanilla notes that reds matured in older oak are sometimes prone to.

On the nose, you'll be struck by its complex aromatics, with red and black fruit, cedar, vanilla, licorice and cinnamon spice all present in the heady mix, along with accents at the edges of autumn leaf and graphite. On the palate, this is a sensual, full-bodied experience, with, best of all, a long, fresh and flavorful finish.

If you can cellar this for a year or two, all the better, but this one's ready to go right now, and will deliver you loads of pure pleasure. But hurry, so you don't miss out!
