The Story: Forged in fire, Commander’s Select VI is curated by the US Army green berets who answered America’s call days after 9/11 with a daring insertion, on horseback, into northern Afghanistan.This brave and daring act earned them the moniker “Horse Soldiers,” and captured the attention of Hollywood, which depicted their story in the 2018 film ”12 Strong.” Legendary men, creating legendary spirits.
Who They Were: After the 9/11 attacks, a small group of elite U.S. Special Forces, known as the "Horse Soldiers," were among the first American troops deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Tasked with working alongside Northern Alliance fighters, these soldiers operated in extremely rugged terrain and often used horses for transportation — a necessity, given the mountainous landscape and lack of infrastructure. Their mission? To coordinate with local warlords, gather intelligence, and call in airstrikes against Taliban and Al-Qaeda forces. Despite being heavily outnumbered, and equipped with only the most basic gear, the Horse Soldiers played a crucial role in toppling the Taliban regime. Their story is a remarkable testament to bravery, adaptability, and the effectiveness of unconventional warfare, and they are vital to understanding the early stages of the War on Terror.
Our Tasting Notes: This 12-year-old bourbon with a high rye mashbill and barrel char #4 showcases a rich and complex profile. On the nose, you'll encounter inviting aromas of toasted nuts and a hint of baking spice, mingled with sweet notes of caramelized toffee and vanilla.
