Writing about the 100-point Haut-Bailly 2016, Jane Anson called it “one of the greatest Haut-Baillys in recent history,” a “fabulous” wine of great “structure and poise.” And Jeb Dunnuck was just as captivated by the Smith Haut Lafitte 2010, declaring it, in a 100-point rave, a “a tour de force” of a wine with “absolutely heavenly aromatics” and “an insane level of purity” that will evolve gracefully for 40 more years.

Both of these estates are jewels of Pessac-Léognan, located in the northern Graves, the oldest wine-producing part of Bordeaux. The soil here is everything: gravelly and unforgiving, which creates precisely the sort of struggle that gets us to wines of this depth and structure.
