GREEN RIVER WHEATED SINGLE BARREL CASK STRENGTH BOURBON
CONCIERGE SALES BARREL SELECT
KENTUCKY, USA
We've partnered with the good folks at Green River because we're true believers in what they're doing: crafting super-high octane, small-batch Kentucky bourbon, while keeping prices remarkably accessible. After tasting through multiple barrel samples, we selected this exceptional Wheated Single Barrel (a walloping 122.6 proof!) exclusively for our Concierge members. This is the first time they’ve produced a Wheated Single Barrel (and the bourbon from the barrel we’ve chosen for you was bottled only just last week), and it captures everything we admire about this rising star: meticulous attention to detail, a distinct flavor profile, and a price point ($70) that had the website Bourbon Lens asking, "Are Green River's Bourbons The Best Value On The Market?"
Its character springs from an unconventional recipe: 70% corn, 21% wheat, and 9% malted barley ... with absolutely no rye anywhere in the equation. The wheat exerts a particular influence, wrapping a well-spun, silky blanket around the palate and softening the natural intensity. You’ll love the way this unfolds on your palate: first, the hints of honeyed sweetness that lead to the luxurious middle notes of freshly-baked pastry and caramelized sugar, which segues to the finish, in which toasted wood and dark fruit harmonize beautifully.
The moment we sampled it, we all paused, looked at one another, and nodded in silent agreement. This is a bourbon that isn’t shy about flexing its muscle (122.6 proof!), but bear in mind: Master Distiller Aaron Harris is a guru at creating balance. And what keeps you coming back for a second, a third, a fourth sip is its structure and, yes, elegance, along with an array of nuances that will have you nosing your glass for hours.
As much as we love Green River’s bourbons, we’re just as taken with its story. This is a great American comeback tale.
Founded in 1885 by J.W. McCulloch in Owensboro, Kentucky, it quickly conquered both domestic and international markets, taking Best of Show at the 1900 Paris World's Fair Exposition (can you imagine the French uneasily tipping their berets to Kentucky whiskey?) and serving as the official medicinal whiskey of the US Marine Hospital for 18 years.
What's wonderful is that that history is not dead and gone, thanks to the Bardstown Bourbon Company, which lovingly and carefully resurrected the label. Today, Green River is distilled on the exact same ground where it began nearly 140 years ago, making it the 10th oldest distillery licensed in Kentucky.
For many of us in the trade, Green River is more than a maker of great bourbon; we would like to think of it as a pace car, proving that you can have serious craftsmanship without the serious price tag or pretension.
And proving, as well, that if you commit to both pillars, it doesn’t take long to build a loyal and passionate following.
Folks, this exclusive Concierge-only release won't last long: unqualified excellence combined with remarkable value seldom does. So act now to secure yours!
