Dr. Bill Lumsden and team took one of the best single malts in the world, and in a culture of point-and-click and instant gratification, did something pretty darn astonishing — they let it sit and wait and continue to age and age. Half a century later and behold: the single oldest whisky this grande dame has ever produced … and they produced only — count ’em — 149 bottles.
Distilled in Glenmorangie's signature copper stills, the tallest in all of Scotland, it was matured in bourbon barrels with just a touch of Oloroso sherry cask whisky, then re-racked into second-fill bourbon barrels to commence its golden years.

The nose, remarkably elegant for a whisky of this age, opens with amber and cardamom, then brings a second wave (of sultanas, nutmeg, and baked orange) before ending, astonishingly enough, with a third wave: a curious herbal top-note, along with hints of toffee and leather. The first sip is gently peppery, then unfolds into stewed Assam tea, birch tar, cinnamon, and a touch of grape must, with clove and oak tannin gathering toward the back. The finish lingers long, no, longer, with notes (of aniseed, treacle toffee, and eucalyptus) that are as refined as they are sustained.
You’ll want to sit with this one for hours and hours.
And the ceramic vessel — from the renowned artist Peter Pincus, whose sculptures are sought by museums and private collectors around the world — is its own harmonious combination, a masterpiece of bottle design, not to mention a vibrant and dynamic centerpiece that will draw the eye and inspire years of conversation.
