GLENGOYNE 17 YEAR SCOTTISH OAK SINGLE MALT
HIGHLANDS, SCOTLAND
WHY BUY: We've just secured 25% OFF of Glengoyne's newest single malt, the latest in their famed Oak Masters’ Series and a 17 Year of complex and powerful character. Born of Glengoyne's signature triple-time distillation and its vaunted, six-year cask preparation program, it was finished in virgin Scottish oak, a porous wood that makes for a heightened interaction between the cask and the spirit. The result is a matured and deeply textured dram that comes by its flavors the right and proper way, and that is both recognizably Glengoyne and also something completely (and excitingly) new.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING: Glengoyne had the kind of 2025 most distilleries can only dream of. The 25 Year Old earned a perfect rating from The Whiskey Wash, along with Double Gold and Best Scotch Whisky. They took home a prestigious Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. And their Mizunara Oak, an earlier entry in this same Oak Masters' Series, claimed a trophy at the International Spirits Challenge, one of only nine awarded among 450 Scotch entries.
OUR TASTING NOTES: The sherry years have done their fine work, and you meet them first: a bit of dried fruit, a little toffee. And then comes the soft, round sweetness that has always been Glengoyne's signature. Now in steps the Scottish oak, bringing with it a wonderful warmth: cinnamon, a good grating of nutmeg, and both of them building the longer the glass sits. The effect is a little like wandering into the kitchen the morning after someone baked late into the night for a holiday. The texture here is just gorgeous, generous without veering into heaviness, and with a finish that leans spicy and dry, but with just enough soft sweetness to have you reluctant to set your glass down.
THE OAK: Scottish oak is, quite frankly, a bit of a pain to work with. It's tough to harvest, tough to carve, tough to season into a cask. All of which is why so few distillers choose to bother with it. But this same wood is also porous, and that’s the crucial detail. That porousness allows more of Glengoyne's sweet, fruity spirit to work its way into the grain and come back changed. Of course, too much contact with this porous wood, and the balance is tipped. That’s why only the final stretch of these 17 years was spent in Perthshire oak, just long enough to add spice and character and enhance the structure.
THE STORY: For every minute most whiskies spend in the still, Glengoyne's spends three. That slow distillation is everything: it gives flavors time to develop on their own, without shortcuts. The casks get the same treatment: six years of preparation before they’re ever filled with the liquid, the longest program in the industry. The Oak Masters' Series is a continuation of that care in casking. Glengoyne is on the perpetual hunt for the best wood from around the world with which to finish their whiskies, which have already gently and patiently aged. With Scottish oak, the search ended close to home, in the forests of Perthshire, a region that locals like to call "the Gateway to the Highlands."
ABV: 47–53% (94–106 proof).
FUN FACT: The label art is an homage, of sorts, to the Scottish Colourists, those early-20th-century painters known for loose brushwork, vivid palettes, and strong light.
OUR GUARANTEE: As always, we only buy and source directly from the distiller to ensure pristine provenance. Quantities are limited, so secure your bottle today.
