GLENGLASSAUGH DISTILLERY, 2010 RARE CASK NO. 2425, SINGLE MALT SCOTCH WHISKY
Glenglassaugh Distillery was shuttered in the late 80s, and laid dormant for more than two decades. Thanks to a group of whisky-minded investors, the distillery was able to reopen its doors in 2008 and in the past 12 years, the single malts coming from this historic distillery have been better than ever. The Glenglassaugh (and BenRiach and GlenDronach) whisky stocks are now overseen by legendary Master Distiller Rachel Barrie, whose impressive resume includes positions with iconic distilleries such as Glenmorangie, Ardbeg, Bowmore, and Laphroaig. We worked with the distillery to source a single, rare cask of Glenglassaugh whisky to offer to you today: the barrel, a Pedro Ximénez sherry butt, was hand-selected by Barrie for its powerful profile; after nine years in cask, the whisky has been bottled, packaged in gift set, and is ready to be collected by our Scotch treasure hunters. Given that a limited number of hand-numbered bottles were produced (and special Concierge pricing), we recommend you act quickly to secure your order!
Glenglassaugh is in a unique location that borders the Speyside and Highland regions and also directly borders the beach, Sandend Bay. “The character of the landscape is very apparent in the whisky; Speyside adding a tropical sweetness, Highland adding depth and richness, and the seaside giving the spirit a coastal charm. In terms of maturation, the coastal location has a particular impact on the flavour of the spirit. The wind coming from the sea travels into the warehouses, where our casks lie slowly maturing, adding a slight coastal influence to the whisky” (Brown-Forman).
Today’s single malt was distilled in July 2010 and aged nine years in Glenglassaugh’s coastal warehouses in ex-Pedro Ximénez sherry cask. Bottled at 54.4% ABV, the decadent whisky boasts a profile rich with notes of dark cocoa, toffee, candied orange, and honey. The texture is incredibly lush and the subtle seaspray complexity on the finish seals the deal. The 2010 Rare Cask is a single malt that’s absolutely complex enough for special occasion pours, but with Concierge pricing sub-$95, you won’t feel guilty about those no-occasion drams either. We’re thrilled to be able to source Concierge-only single barrels for our customers, but as always: once they're gone, they're gone for good. Make sure to order your bottles today!
