Named 'Rum Producer of the Year' for an unprecedented six years in a row at the prestigous International Spirits Challenge, Foursquare Rum Distillery is on a roll—rightfully labeled the "Pappy of Rum" by Wall Street Journal bestselling author and rum authority Fred Minnick. We're no stranger to Foursquare's success, often selling out the latest release from their lineup of cask selections. It's no surpise that demand for Foursquare continues to skyrocket. As many of you already know, Foursquare's Exceptional Cask Selections are some of the rarest, most highly sought-after rums among spirit enthusiasts: these limited collectibles are the real deal, blended from meticulously selected casks by owner and master blender Richard Seale. After selling out in record time our offer of the 'Shibboleth,' we've obtained a limited allocation of this year’s newest release, the Mark XVII '2009,' to give our Concierge customers first dibs on one of the most prized possessions in the world of aged spirits.

Foursquare Rum Distillery is located in Barbados on a former sugar plantation dating back to the early 1700s, which the Seale family purchased in 1995, and is one of the last independent family-owned distilleries in the Caribbean. Taking the lead on capturing the purity of the spirit, Foursquare does not manipulate their rums with any additives, including coloring, and uses both traditional pot and column stills. Although rums are perceived as being sweet, this reputation is largely due to other producers adding wine, sugar, honey, or other sweetening agents to their product. For owner Richard Seale, crafting his spirits is an artform focused on the unique maturation and blending process, including implementing "tropical aging" in which the spirit can mature two to three times faster than spirits from Europe. This allows for greater evaporation, and thus a greater concentration of flavors.

Seale began his aging experiments at the distillery, selecting some of his best ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks to showcase the art of rum maturation and blending. This venture turned into the one-of-a-kind expressions that Seale designated as his Exceptional Cask Selections; connoisseurs anxiously anticipate each successive release. Today's offer of the '2009' is the debut of his latest edition. For the Mark XVII, Seale combined artisanal pot and traditional twin column Coffey stills to distill molasses rums. The spirit was then matured for 12 years in ex-Bourbon barrels and was bottled at cask strength (60% ABV). A rich and assertive rum, this new release will be available for a limited time at special Concierge pricing; don't miss the opportunity to add a bottle or two to your collection today!
