ERBA MOUNTAINSIDE VINEYARDS, PROPRIETARY RED, ATLAS PEAK
NAPA VALLEY, CALIFORNIA 2005
Awarded an impressive 95-points upon release, the allure of Erba’s 2005 Proprietary Red is absolutely undeniable. Noted as a “great sleeper of the vintage”, this rare library release is not only a stunning display of what Atlas Peak has to offer, it shows the true potential of wines from the region. As the most powerful wine of the Erba lineup, it hails from an estate located in the renowned AVA of Atlas Peak, the source for some of the most iconic Napa red wines (Pride, Quintessa, Caymus and many more). More than a decade after its release, this outstanding Bordeaux blend continues to showcase everything we love about the region, including its distinct dark character, minerality and ageability. After securing a miniscule allocation directly from the estate, today we couldn’t be more thrilled to offer a library release of their outstanding 2005 Proprietary Red.
With a unique microclimate of southern facing slopes sitting between 1100 and 1500 feet located near the Pahlmeyer estate, owners Paul and Debbie Erba knew they had something special after establishing the winery in 1998. With help and recommendations from Dr. Paul Skinner (viticulture consultant at Pride), the couple focused on their affinity for Bordeaux, especially the wines of Chateau Haut Brion, by complementing the power of Cabernet with depth and nuance added by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The ability to balance the incredible richness of fruit from their 20 acres of rocky, volcanic soils with elegance and complexity makes their wines a standout in the region. The southern facing slopes allow for full ripening, with the shade from the mountain ridge providing protection in the late afternoon from the intense heat of the sun. With such steep terrain, grapes are manually harvested, and each block is picked separately for optimum ripeness.
A traditional Bordeaux blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2005 packs a punch - full of rich flavors including dark berries, earth, licorice and cedar wood. The tannins have softened, giving this dense wine a beautiful elegance and supple texture. Excellent to drink now, yet still cellar worthy for another decade, this library release is sure to sell out, especially at up to 25% off and under $60 a bottle, so we suggest placing orders quickly!
