With his first vintage of Dominus produced in 1983, to his most recent 2016 release, Christian Moueix’s vision of producing elegant, drinkable wines is unwavering. In a region where heat can ripen the fruit all too quickly, resulting in fruit bombs and prunes, meticulous care in the vineyard is a necessity in producing wines of balance and restraint. Dry farming coaxes the vine's roots to search deeper in the earth for a water source - key to expressing terroir. It’s not easy, but somehow the vines can find their balance. It’s all about nuance and avoiding extremes. Despite popular trends that come in and out of style, his dedication to producing wines of greatness is proved time after time.
Grown on volcanic soil, at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains in the Yountville Appellation of Napa, the 2016 Dominus is “another possible legend in the making…pure, pristine notes of charcoal, cold fireplace, smoke tobacco, and both blue and black fruits all flow to a full-bodied 2016 that has incredible elegance and finesse, yet also depth and density...it will unquestionably live for 25-30 years" (Jeb Dunnick).
