DOMAINES OTT
PROVENCE, FRANCE
There is rosé, and then there is Domaines Ott … and the distance between these two polarities is a canyon-sized gulf. These aren't merely some of the best rosés in the world, though they are that, emphatically. They are wines of a kind you may not have encountered before: celestial in their purity, haunting in their minerality, and with a depth and resonance that lingers long after the glass is empty.
Truly, once you've had Ott, it's hard to go back.
This house didn't just set the standard for prestige Provençal rosé; in many ways, you could say it invented it. The category as we now understand it (serious, collectible, worth cellaring) exists in large part because of the success of this single, extraordinary estate.
Given that powerful pedigree, and a track record of impeccable production, $57 a bottle amounts, we think, to something of a steal.
It's why we've gone and partnered with this Provençal legend to bring you eight wines from their current portfolio, drawn from the years 2021 to 2025 — a period during which Ott has been on an absolutely fantastic run.
The offer spans three styles across three distinct estates, and all of them gorgeous.
The rosés are built principally from Grenache, Cinsault, and Mourvèdre, and deliver that pale, bone-dry, mineral-driven character like none other. The whites, from Clos Mireille right on the Mediterranean shore, shimmer with a salinity you simply won't find from anyone else. And the reds, from Château Romassan in the rocky terrain of Bandol, show the strong presence of Mourvèdre, being structured and powerful and persistent. These will last a decade or more in the cellar, easy. Both the Château de Selle Côtes de Provence Rosé and the Château Romassan Bandol Rosé, both 2025, are equally age-worthy; the Romassan, for our money, is one of the greatest Bandol rosés made anywhere in the world.
From Clos Mireille, the 2023 Blanc is impeccably saline, fresh, and graceful. From Château Romassan, the 2021 and 2022 Bandol Rouge show exactly what serious Mourvèdre can be; they're powerful but elegant, structured but generous, and have another decade of evolution ahead. The Étoile Rosé 2023 is the prestige cuvée, a blend from all three estates, made only in the best years, in tiny quantities. Bright red fruit, hints of dried citrus, a whisper of floral lift, texture and length that only the very top tier of Provençal rosé can produce.
The story behind all of this starts in 1896, when Marcel Ott, a young Alsatian agronomy graduate, arrives in Provence at exactly the worst possible moment. The phylloxera epidemic has demolished the vineyards. The region has largely given up. Where everyone else sees a graveyard, Marcel sees a blank slate. He buys up land on the sun-baked hillsides of Draguignan, rips out the dead vines, replants noble varieties, and sets about proving what was then a radical idea: that rosé can be serious, age-worthy, worth collecting.
Upon such visionaries, the world of wine turns.
By the early 1930s, Marcel's son René decided that a revolutionary wine deserved an equally revolutionary vessel. He drew inspiration from ancient Mediterranean amphorae and designed the bottle that's been Ott's calling card ever since: that swelling, elegant torso tapering to a cinched waist, the clear glass showing off the pale rosé within. Beautiful and captivating. And the wine, as legions of collectors around the world will tell you, is even more so.
All it takes is one glass to go from newbie to passionate loyalist. We'd love for you to find out for yourself.
