“A Chilean wine from Colchagua Valley, Clos Apalta Valle de Apalta may be lesser known — in comparison to Bordeaux’s Château Lafite Rothschild, Tuscany’s Sassicaia or California’s Opus One — but it has been awarded perfect 100 points for both the 2014 and 2015 vintages. In hindsight, there’s no doubt that Clos Apalta is one of the world’s greatest red wines. Expressive and complex in flavor, both vintages are blessed with the balance and precision essential for 100 points” (James Suckling).

Named five times in Wine Spectator’s Top 100, three times in the Top 3 - Clos Apalta is the crown jewel of Chile. Furthermore, since the creation of the Top 100, there have only been two wines from the Southern hemisphere that have been number one: Clos Apalta 2005 and Penfolds Grange 1995. Founded in 1994, Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle and her husband Cyril de Bournet first arrived in Chile’s Colchagua Valley and quickly realized its potential for producing world-class wines. The 30 hectares of land was home to Cabernet and Carmenere vines originating from pre-phylloxera rootstock brought from Bordeaux in the middle of the 19th century. Today, the Clos Apalta blend is composed mostly of these varietals. Located southwest of Santiago in Colchagua Valley, the vineyards are shaped like a horseshoe, surrounded by the Cordillera (coastal mountains of Chile) that blocks the fierce morning and evening sun. In combination with its proximity to the Tinguiririca River, the grapes are able to slowly ripen and develop an unparalleled level of depth, balance and complexity. With its unique setting under the shadow of the mountains, coupled with the early morning mist, the wines of Clos Apalta are able to maintain a freshness which is rare to come across in the wines of the region.

Powerful with enveloping richness, the wines of Clos Apalta are certainly some of the top red wines of the world. With generations of expertise in the wine & spirit industry as the owner of Grand Marnier and Chateau de Sancerre along with the prowess of French oenologist Michel Rolland, Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle has put Clos Apalta on the fast track to success. Having amassed so many awards in such a short period of time, Casa Lapostolle has become, and remains, one of Chile's pioneering producers. For those looking to taste the best example of their wines, you can’t get much better than the 2015 vintage. As this wine fetches upwards of $120, today’s offer is for those looking for a stunning value - their Clos Apalta Le Petit Clos. Impressive and polished, this is a true second wine in the Bordeaux sense as it is produced in the same way as the Grand Vin. With notes of ripe berry and cassis, the 2015 exudes richness and power, with “rich oak-based notes of mint, coconut and baking spice. A lively, fresh palate holds spicy black fruit…flavors of black coffee, black pepper and dark chocolate grace the finish” (WE). For up to one week, we’re offering the wine for as low as $49.97. With the overwhelming response from customers for the previous Prats + Symington Chryseia offer, we wanted to give those who were not able to purchase the chance at another incredible value from one of the top winemaking consultants of Bordeaux. As always, we recommend acting quickly to secure your order!
