DOMAINE DE LA RENAISSANCE, RULLY
BURGUNDY, FRANCE 2018
Searching for high-class Burgundy that won’t require a second mortgage? Rully, located in Burgundy’s Cote Chalonnaise, may be your answer. Bringing focus to this often overlooked region, a Wine Advocate report from 2019 “[shined] a spotlight on wines that represent some of the best values to be found in contemporary Burgundy.” Today we have sourced three 2018 releases from Domaine de la Renaissance, a 15-hectare estate that holds vineyards in the Mercurey, Rully, Bouzeron, and Pommard appellations. All sourced from the domaine’s Rully vineyards, today’s lineup includes three wines—two blanc and one rouge—whose price points will make you do a double-take (in a good way!). If an unbeatable price-to-quality ratio is what you seek, look no further than today’s trio. Act today to take advantage of limited-time pricing up to 26% off!
Coming from a long history of vignerons, Patrick Duvernay has worked in the vineyards of Rully since his childhood. After working with his family for 20 years, Patrick struck out on his own to manage the vineyards and produce wines according to his own philosophy. In 2005, Duvernay and wife Sophie established Domaine de la Renaissance, founded on their genuine passion for the Burgundy terroir. With vineyard land in four different appellations, the portfolio has grown to include a range of wines that epitomize their respective terroirs.
All of today’s wines come from the 2018 vintage, “a year defined by a warm, sunny growing season, generous yields and an early harvest” (Vinous Media). The 2018 ‘Les Gaudoirs’ is 100% Chardonnay, grown in Rully’s clay-limestone soils. All the grapes were hand harvested and fermentation took place in oak barrels. After further maturation in oak, the finished wine is fresh and elegant, with a rounded texture. The wine has taken on nuances of white flowers, stony minerality, and the softest hint of spice. We’ve also included the impressive 2018 1er Cru ‘Les Raclots.’ The Chardonnay also fermented in oak barrels, with regular bâtonnage (stirring up the lees). After a longer aging period in oak, the wine has taken on rich, golden hues and boasts a profile of stone fruit, white flowers, toast, and fresh cream. Though the region is more known for its whites, there are some lovely reds to be found as well. The final wine in today’s lineup is the 2018 ‘La Barre,’ 100% Pinot Noir, aged in 30% new oak, 50% first-fill barrel, and 20% second-fill barrel. Only lightly filtered, the wine is delicious and textured on the palate, with aromas and flavors of cherry, white pepper, and mushroom. Beautifully aromatic, the wine feels simultaneously light and complex, a balance perfected in well-crafted Pinot Noir. Stock up on all three today!
