DOBEL 50 ANNIVERSARY SERIES
1974 & 1975 LIMITED EDITION EXTRA ANEJO TEQUILA
JALISCO, MEXICO
WHY BUY:
These two extra añejos, released to honor founder Juan Dobel's 50-year reign and built upon an intricate matrix of careful details (100% Blue Weber agave from a single family estate, slow double-distillation in traditional alembic stills, and a minimum of eight years aging) are the best we've ever tasted from this grand master. Dobel is that rarity in the tequila world: the vision of a single individual, not a committee-designed product aimed at the broadest possible demographic, and these bottles pay honor to his vision like none other.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:
The past five years have been monumental for Maestro Dobel. In 2025, at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, Maestro Dobel Blanco was crowned Revelation Tequila, effectively "Best in Class." In 2020, Maestro Dobel Añejo swept the Bartender Spirits Awards: Tequila of the Year, Tequila Producer of the Year, Gold Medal.
THE STORY:
At a time when so much of the wine and spirits world has surrendered to homogeneity, mass-market thinking, and the deadening hand of corporatization, Maestro Dobel stands out for being the uncompromising vision of a single individual: Juan Domingo Beckmann Legorreta (Juan Dobel). An 11th generation tequila producer who still oversees every aspect of production at his legendary distillery in the volcanic lowlands of Jalisco, Mexico, he's steeped in the time-honored ways of his place and craft … but not at all bound to them. He regards himself as an innovator, which takes nerve when you're carrying three centuries of family tradition on your shoulders. These rare, ultra-premium Extra Añejos, commemorating his 50th anniversary in command, are brilliant blends of old and new, tradition and innovation. While celebrities launch vanity labels and established producers chase Instagram-friendly bottles, one taste of these releases proves that for Maestro Dobel, quality will never be sacrificed in the name of glitz. All the agave — 100% Blue Weber — is sourced from a single, family-owned estate at the foot of the Tequila volcano.
OUR TASTING NOTES:
The Dobel 50 1974, finished in Marsala wine and Moscatel sherry barrels, opens with a fanfare of Mexican sweets (coconut candy, figs, crystallized orange) then deepens into chocolate, cloves, and warm spices. On the palate: anise, caramel, toasted nuts, with veins of tobacco and leather threading through. The finish stays fresh and complex, despite its eight years in barrel. The chassis, if you will, of the 1975 is its triple oak regime (American, Eastern European, French), which delivers notes of toasted oak, sundried fruits, and ripe stone fruits up front. The palate is where the surprises come; it’s simultaneously sweet and drying, more akin to a long-aged Cognac, and with that rich and coating mouthfeel that only extended aging provides.
THE SPECS:
Both Extra Añejos are crafted from 100% Blue Weber agave, sourced from a single, family-owned estate in the volcanic lowlands of Tequila, Mexico. The artisanal process involves slow-cooking, slow double-distillation in traditional alembic stills, and Maestro Dobel's unique refinement process for clarity and purity. And — not least — each edition spent a minimum of eight years aging in carefully selected barrels.
FUN FACT:
Juan Dobel is an 11th generation tequila producer, but he’s as interested in experimentation as he is in upholding tradition. He pioneered the cristalino category, and has been experimenting with wine barrel finishes for decades, always seeking new ways to unlock flavor.
OUR GUARANTEE:
As always, we only buy and source directly from the producer to ensure pristine provenance. These are exceedingly rare collectibles, certain to provide you with many hours of exquisite pleasure. Our allocation is extremely limited, so secure your bottles today!
