CONCHA Y TORO 'GRAVAS DEL MAIPO' CABERNET SAUVIGNON

MAIPO VALLEY, CHILE 2017

The second vintage of Don Melchor was the first Chilean wine to land on the prestigious Top 100 List by Wine Spectator, and in the three decades since Don Melchor has become a veritable fixture of that annual ranking.

This iconic producer has secured a spot on the Top 100 eight times, most recently with the 2017 Concha y Toro ‘Gravas del Maipo’ Cabernet Sauvignon, which garnered 97 points. We're excited to be able to bring it to you today.

Wine Advocate has called ‘Gravas del Maipo’ a "kind of second wine of Don Melchor," and the connection is evident in every rich, satiny sip of this red gem. This is a unique opportunity to experience the famed Puente Alto terroir at a steal of a price — for the next week only, we’re able to offer each bottle at less than $40!

The grapes are sourced from the Puente Alto D.O., at the foot of the Andes, more than 2,000 feet above sea level. The 30+-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon vines derive from a pre-phylloxera selection brought to Chile from Bordeaux in the late 19th century. Bordeaux plays more than a bit part in this narrative: In 1987, the renowned Bordeaux wine consultant Jacques Boissenot joined Viña Concha y Toro at the urging of Emilie Peynaud, widely regarded as “the father of modern winemaking." Peynaud was among the first to perceive that Chile’s high-altitude vineyards might one day produce world-class wine.

Isabel Mitarakis, who trained under Concha y Toro's director of enology, Marcelo Papa, as well as Don Melchor’s Enrique Tirado, oversees the winemaking. This bottling is a beautiful example of the house style, which is to combine Old World elegance and structure with New World freshness and energy. Aged in French oak (25% new, 75% second use) for 14 months, the wine is bursting with red fruits, dried herbs, spices, graphite, dried plum and earth.

Kim Marcus, in his 95-point rave for Wine Spectator, hailed it as "precise and powerful," noting the way it brings "flesh richness to the dark currant, cassis and black olive flavors" and singling out the "long, richly spiced finish."

He suggests drinking it now through 2027, an assessment with which we richly concur — our recent tasting showed this to be performing beautifully right now, with the wine reaching its gorgeous peak after 30 minutes.

Stock up now — and remember: this remarkable best price per bottle of less than $40 for our Concierge Family lasts for just this one week only!
