With neighbors like Canon, Clos Fourtet and Ausone, there’s no doubt Beau-Séjour Bécot is located on some of Saint-Émilion’s most prized real estate. And as one of only 18 châteaux to be classified Premier Grand Cru Classé—a group of wines with price points that can easily reach upwards of $800 a bottle— Beau-Séjour Bécot continues to be one of the most sought-after values in the region. Owner Juliette Becot and husband Julien recently hired consultant Thomas Duclos, whose other projects include Troplong Mondot and Canon, to continue to build the estate’s celebrated reputation. Prior to Duclos, renowned consultant Michel Rolland (Pontet-Canet and Angelus) worked alongside Juliette’s father, Gérard, for more than 30 vintages—producing outstanding wines that solidified the estate’s glowing status. The 2016 vintage marks the finale of the partnership between Rolland and Beau-Séjour Bécot and is a stunning collectible that exemplifies the property’s success over the past decades. Today we have secured a small allocation of this incredible vintage, with each bottle coming in at less than $75 when purchasing 12 or more.

The Beau-Séjour Bécot property is located on the plateau just outside the town of Saint-Émilion, and has a storied history. Its vineyards were cultivated by monks during the middle ages and it is still home to nearly seven hectares of centuries-old, hand-carved limestone caves. The soil is made up of a layer of clay on top of limestone and the vineyard land totals around 20 hectares. The estate’s modern era began when it was acquired by Michel Bécot in 1969; Michel began major investments and expansions that were then handed off to his son, Gérard, and eventually his granddaughter, Juliette. The estate was promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé ‘B’ in 1996, but production remains limited: only 5,000 cases are produced annually, which includes both the Grand Vin as well as the house’s second wine. The cépage of the 2016 release is 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the wine matured in 90% new oak for 16 months.

From a vintage that is “firing on all cylinders,” the 2016 is an absolute masterpiece “with brilliant limestone character, fabulous intensity on both the nose and plate, ultra-fine tannins, and a magical texture” (Jeb Dunnuck). A 95-point beast of a wine that represents “the best Beau-Séjour Bécot ever" (Neal Martin, Vinous), the 2016 is full-bodied and jam-packed with layers of fruit, including “chocolate-covered cherries, preserved plums and black raspberries” (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate). Though it’s always an incredible value, the additional 28% off when purchased by the case (original wood, no doubt) makes today’s wine a must-have that can be cellared for several decades to come. As production is limited for this highly sought-after wine, act quickly to secure your order of Rolland’s final vintage at Beau-Séjour Bécot!
